Born in America but my blood is Jamaican.
Often misunderstood to the office I’m taken.
Mamma got to pick me up, I’m sitting there waiting.
Teacher said she gave up, too painstaking.
Death and destruction all around me, got to do something groundbreaking.
Gandbangers on the corner first taught us handshaking.
Next it was money making.
Then my homie Mike got his life taken.
Time is steadily ticking.
I’m in the field catching charges with no baseball mitten.
Only 16 and facing felony convictions.
Deplorable depiction.
Had to switch it up like a stick shift shifting.
Tried going to college,streets interfering with my mission.
Manage to pull through, blame it on ambition.
Earned a degree but in debt for tuition.
The American dream can’t be seen,
When racist nightmares Start to kick in.
But I’m my own Master so no cotton picking.
No butt kissing.
I decided to give back to educate youth and give them vision.
Can’t be bought, won’t sell out, that would be a contradiction.
In addition I’m in a position to better improve our condition.
